Apartment’s outdoor facilities and storage spaces

Keep the balcony or yard of your apartment clean and the storage unit of your apartment locked.

Balcony

Take care of your balcony

  • Keep your balcony clean and free of litter. The balcony may not be used for storing items that increase the fire load and disturb the environment. Do not use the balcony as a storage space or for storing your waste.
  • In the wintertime, remove any snow from the balcony, but be careful when shovelling snow from the balcony. Check that there are no people beneath the balcony and be careful not to damage its surfaces.
  • Washing the balcony with running water is prohibited.
  • Do not allow debris to collect in the drainage holes.
  • Do not keep wet rugs on a painted balcony floor as they will damage the surface.
  • If your balcony is glazed, clean the glazing regularly if you can safely do so. Residents are responsible for washing the exterior surface of the balcony glazing.
  • Do not have any outdoor fires on the balcony – they might cause a fire.
  • Place flower boxes on the inner side of the railings so that they cannot fall off.
  • Sunshades and other similar protective equipment must be fastened securely. However, do not drill any holes in the balcony structures.
  • Prevent children and pets from climbing the balcony.
  • Do not shake out or brush clothes and other textiles outside the railing so that the dust and litter falls onto the balconies below yours.
  • Do not throw cigarette butts off the balcony.
  • If the doors of your balcony have wooden frames, do not keep them open continuously as they may become damaged.
  • Feeding birds, squirrels and other wild animals on your balcony is prohibited.

Installing your own balcony glazing and cat nets

Unfortunately, having balcony glazing installed at your own expense is not allowed. In order to prevent cats or other pets from falling, you can install on your balcony purpose-made light netting that requires no permanent attachment to the balcony structures.

Private yard

If your apartment has a yard, you must take care of the work it requires, such as cleaning, snow removal, lawn maintenance and other greenery planting. In your own yard, you can plant flowers, vegetables and herbs but no shrubs, trees or vines that may become attached to the structures of the building.

When you move out, either leave the plants where they are without any compensation or restore the yard to its original condition.

Feeding birds and other wild animals is prohibited because such food also attracts rats and other pests to the yard.

Storage for movable property

The apartment includes a separate storage unit for movable property which is numbered according to the apartment. The door to the storage unit has iron holders for a padlock which you must purchase yourself.

It is advisable that you keep the unit locked even when it is empty; this prevents misuse of the space. The movable property you keep in the storage unit is your responsibility.

Items susceptible to dampness should not be stored in unheated storage units. A good way to avoid further damage in case of water damage is to keep any items stored in the basement on a surface about ten centimetres above the ground. Do not keep any flammable liquids or gases in the storage unit. You can keep no more than one set of car tyres in the storage unit.

When you move out, you must clear out the closets and storage units belonging to your apartment.

Cooled earth cellars

In older buildings, apartments may have a cooled earth cellars numbered according to the apartments. Such cellars are for storing food only. Get a padlock for the door of the storage unit and keep the door locked.
